Are you thinking of a change of employment going into the new year? Perhaps a sea change working at a rapidly growing Coogee based Electrical company is just what the doctor ordered!
We are currently looking for a Senior Electrician to join our team located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
An ideal candidate would have minimum 3 years qualified experience, want to work in the residential maintenance field and have a zest for learning new skills and working in a collaborative team. Ideally we would be looking for someone looking to join our work ‘family’ who would like contribute and grow with the company for a while. Unfortunately this means that short term applicants are not ideal for this position.
Excellent Team Culture – We provide a fun and supportive work environment where you’re working alongside mates that want to help you grow. The boss is always open to ideas or to sort out any concerns you might have. Our goal is to help you, whilst you help the team.
Pay Rates + Incentives ($20-$40p/h) – We offer competitive pay rates with an incentive and commission program where you can earn more if you find additional work on jobs that is to be done. In addition to this, there are two wage reviews scheduled for each year.
Your Own Vehicle – You’ll get a recent model van, fully kitted out with all the stock we regularly use so you can tackle most jobs on the fly. You’ll be able to take this van home which means no more petrol/car servicing costs for your daily commute to the work depot.
Phone Bill Included – If you have an iPhone we’ll pay your phone bill for you which means savings for you! If you don’t have an iPhone we’ll provide you with one for work.
Career Progression – As a growing business, we’re always looking for team members that we can promote to more senior roles. What’s more, we do a weekly toolbox session where we have a training module of about half an hour which not only keeps us up to date on our technical knowledge but also allows the apprentices to ask questions about aspects of their work they may not fully understand.
We primarily work in the residential/domestic service and maintenance area. A typical day will involve 3-5 jobs where you’ll be expected to quote on-site (using our simple job management system), present the options to the customer and complete the work.
This will involve friendly, engaging, and educational conversations with the customers so we can help them make an informed decision about their electrical work.
Generally speaking, our clients are lovely people that truly value the professional service we provide.
Residential maintenance work can be challenging, whether it’s crawling under a house or coming up with an innovative way to solve a customer’s problem. You’ll be expected to tackle these issues with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude but will always have the full support of both the office and the other technicians for those tricky situations.
Back in the early 2000s, Tom (Managing Director) completed his apprenticeship with a high-end residential construction company called Panda Electrical. After the GFC hit in 2009 and construction jobs started to dry up, Tom took a job with a small but long-established electrical maintenance company called Bruce Scott & Co. This company was working in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and was started back in 1972 by Bruce Scott.
In all that time Bruce came to know every trick in the book concerning residential and commercial electrical work. These skills were dutifully passed onto the Tom during his 7 years working there.
Bruce eventually decided it was time to hand over the reins to Tom, and under new management the company was renamed MetElec. Bruce has stayed on in an advisory role and is still found solving electrical problems in Sydney’s East.
Since coming under Tom’s management, the company has grown to 5 members and now serves the whole of Sydney with the same commitment to customer service, technical knowledge, and great prices.
In December 2018 the decision was made to change the company name from MetElec to ‘Spark Nearby’.
