The team were phenomenal! They were prompt and efficient, even going above and beyond what was originally required to fix adhoc items they saw without being asked. 100% would use their services again.

I spoke to Tom who sent Claire out to install a new exhaust fan after the very old one finally died. Claire arrived on time and in less than 20 minutes had the new fan installed. She left the bathroom clean and even took the old fan away. Job done quickly and at a reasonable price. New fan works perfectly. I recommend Sparky Nearby who has also completed jobs at my church with the same efficiency.

Second time I trusted them with a job and it was very well done. They are super profesional. They made it easy to schedule a time and they quickly responded to enquiries or adjust without problems. They work fast by bringing a team. Next time I need electrical work I'll be calling them again.

Absolutely awesome blokes. Super quick to setup a time to come by, arrived on time as advised and were quick to change the light and fitting. Biggest legends, even cleaned the mess as well and left the place spotless. 10/10 would recommend! Your happy customer

House Rewiring

Why Do You Need House Rewiring?

Are you living in a home built before 1980? Many homes in and around Sydney are still relying on their original wiring, which can mean, in the worst case, that their wires are only insulated by cotton, posing a severe fire risk for a number of reasons:

Cotton insulation is not waterproof. A leak of any sort, such a burst pipe, an overflowing hot water tank, or a damp wall after a heavy spell of rain, can conduct electricity straight through the cotton insulation to the other cables and short circuit your system, causing either a fire or power outage.

The cotton has become brittle and frayed from its old age and cracks off, leaving exposed live wires! If someone is working in your roof space or under the floors, they could brush up against the bare wires and get electrocuted. This commonly happens with rats, possums, and birds as well. In addition to the risk to people or animals, this process is also a leading cause of house fires.

Cotton insulation is actually a flammable material and overload of the circuit can result in the self-igniting of the cotton as the cables glow red hot. This is the main reason for how these cables can start a fire.

So how do you know if you have substandard house wiring?

A great indicator is brown steel conduits for the cables to run through in the ceiling or under the floor. These were almost exclusively used for VIR Cotton insulated cables and should definitely be checked. Other than this, there are several other indicators to determine the need for rewiring, but they can only be identified through a thorough safety inspection by a certified electrician.

If your home was built before 1980, call our house rewiring specialists in Sydney and get your electrical system checked to ensure you’re safe from potential hazards.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of house rewiring in Sydney will vary depending on the size of the property, the extent of the work being done, and the electrical contractor you choose. On average, you can expect to spend anywhere between $3500 to $8000 for rewiring a medium-sized home in Sydney.

While it is possible to rewire a house without completely removing the drywall, this approach may have certain limitations and could limit the extent of upgrades that can be performed. In some cases, it may be possible to access the electrical wiring through small access points. However, this can be more challenging and might not allow for full upgrades to be performed. It’s always best to consult a professional electrician to assess your home’s electrical system and determine the best approach for rewiring to achieve desired results.

Unfortunately, house rewiring is a labour-intensive job which requires the time, effort, and expertise of professional electricians. As such, it cannot be performed for free. However, you can lower the costs of your rewiring project by comparing quotes from different electrical contractors, looking for promotions or discounts, and making sure you understand all the costs involved, including any necessary materials or equipment. You may also try looking into government-sponsored energy efficiency programs or grants that may provide funding for energy-saving home improvements like rewiring. However, there is no guaranteed way to get house rewiring completed for free.

It is possible to live in your house while it is being rewired, but this may not be recommended, as the work can be disruptive and may create dust and debris. In some cases, you may need to temporarily relocate while the work is being done.
